Ambassador Jehangir Karamat expresses sympathy with victims of ‘Katrina’
Pakistan has expressed sympathy with the victims of ‘Katrina’, the worst ever natural disaster faced by the United States. President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have sent messages of sympathy to President George W. Bush. Ambassador Jehangir Karamat in Washington has also expressed sympathy with the victims of ‘Katrina’.
According to the Embassy’s estimates some 2,700 Pakistanis and Pakistani-Americans lived in areas which were affected by the hurricane. A number of them have been moved to shelters.
Ambassador Karamat said the Embassy is in touch with the authorities in Washington DC and affected areas. There have been no reports of casualties amongst Pakistani community.
The Ambassador has instructed Pakistan’s Consul General in Houston, Mr. G.R. Baloch to visit the Pakistanis and Pakistani-Americans in shelters.
