Ambassador meets with the President and the CEO of MercyCorps Ms Nancy Lindborg and Mr. Neal Keny-Guyer

The President and the CEO of MercyCorps Ms Nancy Lindborg and Mr. Neal Keny-Guyer met with the Ambassador today. Mr. Keny-Guyer has recently returned from Pakistan. He briefed the Ambassador in detail on the earthquake relief work being undertaken by MercyCorps. Keny-Guyer stated that he had traveled to many disaster areas during his career including to Bam, Iran but he had not seen the level of destruction that he had witnessed in Azad Kashmir and NWFP. He was “impressed to see how the people of Pakistan had come together” in a time of national crisis.

Keny-Guyer underlined that “the military was very supportive of our efforts” and the MercyCorps was “working with an impressive group of people.” Keny-Guyer stated that “the Pakistan Government has been a model in working with the NGOs” and providing help. In praising the Pakistan military in the earthquake relief he added that “a lot of militaries can learn something from the Pakistan Army.” The Ambassador thanked MercyCorps for the good work on behalf of the Government and the people of Pakistan.
