MULTI-CULTURAL EVENT HOSTED BY THE GIRL SCOUTS OF CENTRAL
MARYLAND
The Embassy participated in a multi-cultural event organized
by the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland on February 26, 2006. The event
is held annually with participation of Girl Scouts from all over the state
of Maryland. This year for the first time, the event organizers, invited
the embassies in Washington DC to participate in their gala to introduce
the cultures of the world to the young American participants.
The Embassy set up an impressive pavilion which was built around the theme
of “The Festivals of Pakistan” to showcase the rich cultural
heritage of our country. An extremely enthusiastic response was witnessed
to the display and information about various Pakistani festivals including
“Eid” and “Basant”. The dissemination of information
about the historical sites of Pakistan such as the ancient Badshahi mosque
and the Lahore Fort was greatly appreciated. Pakistani music and food
added yet another layer of interest to the display. Handicrafts from various
regions of the country formed an impressive backdrop to the host of cultural
activities at the Pakistan pavilion.
Ambassador Jehangir Karamat and Mrs. Jehangir attended the event. The
Ambassador’s participation was greatly appreciated by the event
organizers and other participants.
The event provided an important opportunity to project the soft image
of Pakistan and to educate the students and participants from 35 other
nations about the culture and traditions of Pakistan.
