An eight-member delegation of Pakistani-American Christian
Coalition called on Ambassador Jehangir Karamat on March 7, 2006. The
delegation discussed with the Ambassador issues of concern for the Christian
community, including some recent incidents of violence against Christians
in Pakistan.
The Coalition members expressed full support to the Muslim
community on the outrage caused by the Blasphemous cartoons depicting
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). They expressed the hope that such incidents would
not lead to creation of differences between Muslims and Christians in
Pakistan.
Ambassador Karamat praised the role played by the Christian
community in promoting religious harmony and in social and educational
development of Pakistan. He assured the delegation of the full support
of the Government of Pakistan to the Christian community and reiterated
the Government's commitment to protection of Christian religious sites
and educational facilities. Ambassador Karamat also praised the respect
earned by Pakistani-American Christians, living in the United States in
a peaceful and a law-abiding manner.
