Pakistan remains committed to its policy of non-proliferation:
DCM Sadiq rebuts WP report
WASHINGTON, Aug 22 (APP)- Pakistan remains committed to
its policy that it would not proliferate any sensitive
technologies.
"This commitment was reaffirmed at the highest level,"
said DCM Mohammad Sadiq, in a forceful rebuttal issued
Thursday.
In a letter to the editor of daily 'The Washington Post',
Mohammad Sadiq said "Pakistan has a strong export control regime
in place and Pakistan's record in this regard in impeccable."
The acting Ambassador termed the allegations made by Mr.Jim
Hoagland "completely false, irresponsible and obviously motivated
to portray Pakistan negatively."
Sadiq was referring to Mr.Hoagland's writeup titled 'In Iraq,
Merchandising Mass Destruction' published in the WP of August
21.
He said: "We are not surprised by Mr. Jim Hoagland's
unsubstantiated allegation regarding Pakistan's assistance for
Iran's nuclear program."
Hoagland, he said "seems to have made a habit of
castigating and berating Pakistan on one pretext or on another."
"Pakistan has always maintained that if anybody has a
proof regarding alleged proliferation, it should be brought
forth.
The challenge has never been taken up or met, yet unsubstantiated
innuendoes continue."
He said: "As usual, Hoagland bases his arguments on
disinformation from shadowy sources and purported 'intelligence
reports'."
"We would urge Hoagland to go beyond making statements
that are not based in facts and put his decade-old anti-Pakistan
rhetoric to rest as it has now lost its novelty," Mr.Sadiq added.
