Pakistan Receives Award for Promotion of Peace in South Asia
In a ceremony held last evening by the Inter Faith Conference of Metropolitan Washington (IFC), special awards were given to the Governments of Pakistan and India , in recognition of their peace making efforts. Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Aslam Khan, received the award on behalf of Government of Pakistan. In his remarks on this occasion, Mr. Aslam Khan lauded the wisdom and foresight of the Inter Faith Conference in selecting the Pakistan-India peace process for the special award. He said that Pakistan was strongly committed to a durable and lasting peace in South Asia through dialogue. He emphasized the importance of resolution of the Kashmir issue, for peace and harmony in the region. He underlined the importance of international support and encouragement for the success of the composite dialogue process between Pakistan and India . The citation of the Award, while appreciating the peace efforts by the Governments of Pakistan and India, expressed the hope that the peace process would ultimately lead to the resolution of all outstanding issues including Kashmir .
