PRESIDENT'S VISIT TO USPresident General Pervez Musharraf will visit the United States from 16-27 September 2006. During the visit the President will be addressing the 61 st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York . He will meet with world leaders attending the General Assembly session including Mr. Kofi Annan, the UN Secretary General. The President will meet with President Bush at the White House on 22 September 2006. The two leaders will discuss bilateral matters and exchange views on regional and global issues of common interest. The President's meeting with President Bush would move forward the process of regular high-level consultations between the two leaders. The meeting will take place in the backdrop of the growing momentum in the bilateral relationship. The President's engagements will also include meetings with Vice President Richard B. Cheney in Washington and Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice in New York . The President will interact with members of U.S. Congress representing both sides of the aisle at a luncheon meeting on Capitol Hill being hosted by Congressman Tom Lantos. The President will have several speaking engagements at prominent academic institutions and think-tanks in both Washington and New York . In Washington , the President will address The George Washington University and attend a Round-table meeting at the Carnegie Endowment with a select group of South Asian specialists and policy experts. In New York , the President will participate in a Panel Discussion at the Clinton Global Initiative. He will also have an interactive session with policy influentials being organized by the Nixon Centre. The President will participate in two business related events in New York. He will have a Roundtable with leading investors from the American corporate community. He will also be attending a luncheon meeting hosted by the U.S. Chamber and U.S.-Pakistan Business Council. The President will have extensive media interaction with the U.S. media. It will include interviews with major TV channels and meetings with editorial boards of prominent newspapers. In a special investiture ceremony being held in Washington on 21 September, the President would confer awards to U.S. government agencies, corporations, non-governmental organizations and individuals involved in rendering assistance and services during the 8 October 2005 earthquake relief and rehabilitation efforts. The President will address the Pakistani-American community in Washington . The Pakistan-U.S. strategic relationship was affirmed during President Bush's visit to Pakistan in March 2006. The President's visit would deepen the Pakistan-U.S. relationship and strengthen the expanding multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
