Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri meets with US Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice
Kasuri said his meeting with Secretary Rice was part of regular bilateral interaction at high level following President George Bush's visit to Pakistan in March 2006 and President Pervez Musharraf's visit to the United States September last year. He said since then senior officials from both countries have paid regular bilateral visits to hold talks on further consolidating multi-faceted ties and in this respect referred to the recent visit to Pakistan by US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and numerous visits by Assistant Secretary Richard Boucher. In the regional context, the Foreign Minister said they also discussed Afghanistan and added Secretary Rice was appreciative of what Pakistan has been doing for Afghanistan. The two officials also discussed Pakistan-India relations in the context of Kashmir and also touched on the Middle East situation. "Pakistan and India have made a lot of progress and the rest depends on political will," the Foreign Minister replied when asked to comment on progress so far made in the peace process between the two South Asian countries.
