U.S. Senate Delegation visits Pakistan

 

A three-member U.S Senate delegation comprising Senator John Warner (Republican), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee; Senator Ted Stevens (Republican), Chairman, Senate Appropriation Committee and Senator Ernest Fritz Holling (Democrat), one of the senior most Senators, called on President General Pervez Musharraf today (March 17).

The President’s discussions with the Senators covered bilateral relations and the regional situation including the ongoing action against terrorist elements along Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The delegation assured their full cooperation in advancing the U.S economic and security assistance package for Pakistan.

On the resumption of Pakistan –India dialogue, the President stressed the need of a result oriented approach to resolve the outstanding issues including Jammu and Kashmir.

The US Senators appreciated the bold steps taken by the Government to ensure nuclear non-proliferation.

The Foreign Minister, Mr. Khurshid M. Kasuri, was also present at the meeting.
