Ambassador Qazi meets Congressman Roger Wicker

 

WASHINGTON, Mar 26 (APP)- Congressman Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi) Thursday said President General Pervez Musharraf has taken "profound and momentous decisions" and that "we owe him so much gratitude."

The decisions taken by President Musharraf, he said "are in the best interest of Pakistan."

The Congressman observed this during a meeting with Ambassador Ashraf Jehangir Qazi held with him at the Capitol Hill.

Mr. Wicker recalled with warmth the "wonderful reception" he got during his 2002 visit to Pakistan, and referred to President Musharraf in glowing terms.

Congressman Wicker is serving his fifth term in Congress and is one the important Sub-Committee members on Foreign Operations,Export Financing and Related Programs of the House Appropriations Committee.

The Pakistan Ambassador briefed the Congressman on current issues including the government's action in FATA, non-proliferation,Pakistan-U.S. relations, restoration of peace and stability in South Asia.

Ambassador Qazi's meeting with Congressman Wicker is one of fourteen meetings with Congressmen and Congresswomen during the last fortnight.

He has met with Members of the important House International Relations Committee Jim Leach (R-Iowa), Gary Ackerman (NY), Tom Tancredo (R-Colorado), Joseph Crowley (D-NY), Gregory Meekes (D-NY),Steve Chabot (R-Ohio), Daha Rohrabacher (R-California), Brad Sherman (D-California), TomLantos (D-California), and the equally important House Appropriations Committee: Steven Rothman (D-NJ), Joseph Knollenberg (R-Michigan), Jesse Jackson (D-Illinois), and Nita Lowey (D-NY).
