New group of interns join the Embassy
This well-qualified group of young men and women are majoring in fields such as Journalism, Public Relations, South Asian Politics and American Government at their respective universities. The group includes students who have interned the United Nations, Congress, the British Parliament, “USA Today” and S.O.S. Children’s Villages.
In an effort to take advantage of the knowledge and creativity of fresh minds while offering interns an enjoyable but challenging experience, the Embassy works to match the students’ interests to its needs. In their first week alone, the interns have promoted the Embassy’s media visibility by writing articles and statements for American newspapers, conducted research on topics ranging from neo-conservatism to the brain drain phenomenon and attended think tank sessions on behalf of the Embassy.
“The internship program is mutually beneficial
to the Embassy and to the interns because it gives the interns first-hand
exposure and professional experience in U.S. politics while multiplying
the capacity of the Embassy in making it a dynamic part of Pakistani-American
life,” said Nadia Naviwala, a junior at Georgetown University who
initiated the program and is currently its coordinator.
