U.S Announces Major Non NATO Ally (MNNA) status for Pakistan
WASHINGTON, Jun 16 (APP)- The United States Wednesday announced designation
of Pakistan as a Major Non NATO Ally, with the signing and issuance of
the formal U.S. Presidential Determination, in this behalf. In a Memorandum
for the Secretary of State, President George W. Bush in the Presidential
Determination states: "you are authorized and directed to publish
this determination in the Federal Register."
The announcement was made by the White House Press Secretary
from Tampa, Florida.The Presidential Memorandum reads: "Consistent
with the authority vested in me by section 517 of the Foreign Assistance
Act of 1961, as amended (the "Act"), I hereby designate the
Islamic Republic of Pakistan as a Major Non-NATO Ally of the United States
for the purposes of the Act and the Arms Export Control Act."

SUBJECT: Designation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as a Major Non-NATO
Ally Consistent with the authority vested in me by section 517 of the
Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, as amended (the "Act"), I hereby
designate the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as a Major Non-NATO Ally of
the United States for the purposes of the Act and the Arms Export Control
Act. You are authorized and directed to publish this determination in
the Federal Register.
